Alberotle, Steveocrates and Paulato put on their mind-altering thinking caps and investigate the philosophical implications of Precrime as depicted by Philip K. Dick in his 1956 science fiction story The Minority Report which was later adapted into a film in 2002 by Steven Spielberg. Does the sophisticated system of Precrime thwart human “free will,” and should any society adopt this drastic form of preemptive justice to punish people for breaking no law? It turns out that this style of predictive policing has to some extent “become a reality”.
Another daunting task that ASP tackle are the numerous intractable philosophical issues surrounding Thanksgiving: What does it mean to be thankful, anyway? Does a turkey know that it’s a turkey? If a turkey gobbles in a forest and nobody is around to hear it does it make a sound? These questions and many others will surely induce mental if not stomach cramps at the Thanksgiving dinner table.
Happy Thanksgiving, and thank you for listening to ASP Stuff Radio!
